The Wave Pictures played yesterday night in Paris and they are currently (tonight, precisely now) playing in Rouen supported by Lisa Li-Lund... too bad we couldn't make it, because yesterday's gig was great. I had downloaded some songs from their website and my expectations were high, considering the very positive reviews they had got when their debut album, Sophie, was released last year. No doubt there is something of some of my favourite bands of all times in the Wave Pictures: the DIY charm of the Pastels, the energy of Galaxie 500, the sound of Josef K, the spirit of Postcard Records.
I don't know much about them, except the short biography they have on their site, which reveals that they started playing in the late 1990s... that they played at the Mofo festival in Paris last year, that they'd deserve to be much more famous... and that we share this common point: they're apparenly obsessed by someone called Sophie!
